Yaba College of Technology gets a New Rector

The Federal government has appointed a new rector for the foremost higher learning and premier institution in Nigeria, Yaba College of Technology. She is Mrs. Margaret Kudi Ladipo.

She was until her appointment the Director of Yabatech Consult, a consultancy service unit of the college.

Born on April 16, 1961, an indigene of Kwara State, Mrs. Ladipo began her academic career in 1966 at Anglican Girls school, Kaduna where she obtained her Primary School Leaving Certificate. She proceeded to Government Secondary School, Kaduna for her post primary education and came out with Distinction in 1977.

Mrs Margaret Kudi Ladipo in her quest for knowledge and brilliancy was given admission to one of the premier universities in Nigeria, the great Ahmadu Bello University, to study Chemistry where she bagged B.Sc Hons. She had her Higher School Certificate in the same school before her degree programme. Not relenting, Mrs. Ladipo in 1982 enrolled for the masters degree programme at the same university, to read Polymer Science and Technology.

Precisely twenty-two years after, the new rector of Yaba College of Technology with her thirst for knowledge and wanting to bridge the widened gap in the science world of education went back to her alma mater to do her PhD in Analytical Chemistry in 2006. This, she has almost completed with her dissertation in progress.

Mrs. Kudirat Ladipo possesses professional qualifications in Entrepreneurship Development, Management Training for Educational Administrators and Basic Computer Technology.

She is a Fellow member of the following professional bodies:

She is a member of Nigeria ‘Who is Who ‘ in Management Intelligence, Member Women in Technical Education, Member Polymer Institute of Nigeria, Member Chemical Society of Nigeria and Member Textile Society of Nigeria.

She has two books to her credit, fourteen published articles in international and local journals and ten unpublished publications. Her dissertations are on Geo-Chemical Partitioning of Sediment and the Status of Pollution in Twenty-seven locations of the Lagos Lagoon, a dissertation in view for her PhD thesis at Ahmadu Bello University. She also did some studies on the Blends of Polyvinyl Acetate and Polyethyl Methacrylate and Interraction of Trivalen Metal ions with Polyelectrolyte.

In Training, Conferences and Paper presentations, the newly appointed Rector of the foremost institution in Nigeria has done Thirteen paper presentaions and has attended over Twenty five trainings and workshops with Four awards conferred on her. The awards are Special Merit Awards for Excellence in Management Intelligence, Women in Merit Gold, Business Report International Merit Award for Excellence in Service to Humanity and African Success for her outstanding contributions in Events Management.

Her work experience began in 1982 as a Graduate assistant at her alma mater. She left in 1984 to work at Kaduna Polytechnic as a Lecturer III and left in 1986 to join Yaba College of Technology as Lecturer II where she rose through rank and file to become a Chief Lecturer in 2002. Mrs. Ladipo was one time Head of Department, Polymer & Textile from 1994 to 2000 and later became the Director of Yabatech Consult in 2005 a position she held until her appointment as Rector.

Her administrative experience and exposure was highly impressive as she was member of over thirty committees in the college, chairman of numerous committees and received several commendations for meritorious contributions and achievements in assignments given to her within and outside the country.

Mrs Ladipo is a member of intellectual groups and social societies and numerous NGOs. She is married to Mr. Adebayo Ladipo with children.

She assumed duty on Thursday, December 10, 2009.
